Patrick Odle was born and raised in Southern California. At the age of 10, he was being bullied by local gang members and other children at school. This caused him to seek out a program that would help him learn self defense.
He found a western boxing class that he attended for about a year. It was then he was introduced to wrestling, while in his 6th grade school year. From that day on, for the next ten years, his heart and body were on the mat.
Within that time he wrestled several different styles from Freestyle, Greco, and Collegiate. He obtained a rank in the top 15 in the nation for Freestyle. He was also one of the top wrestlers in the state for Collegiate and Freestyle Wrestling, placing multiple years in a row. In 1998, he achieved the title of Southern California Wrestling Association Champion in his weight class for Freestyle Wrestling.
At the age of 21, he wanted to expand on his striking capabilities, so he searched every gym in the Bakersfield area. He ended up taking up Kung Fu San Soo under Master Eric Nolan (Scott Leitch Lineage), for about 5.5 years, until he discontinued his Kung Fu program.
Fortunately, the San Soo instruction Patrick was receiving there, was very progressive. This allowed him to also have exposure to Kali/Eskrima, JKD concepts, Kickboxing, as well as Jiu Jitsu.
Once Master Nolan ended his Kung Fu program, he was fortunate enough to meet Master Roger Huff (Bill Hulsey Lineage), and continue his San Soo progression.
On August 16th 2014, he received his Master’s Degree (8th Degree) in Kung Fu San Soo. His certificate was signed by both Master Roger Huff and his Master, Master Bill Hulsey. At this point Patrick felt like he had made the first substantial step in his Martial arts education. However, it was still far from where he felt he should be.
At that point, he decided to seek out his first instructor’s Master, Master Sifu Ryan Spink. It took a bit of searching, but he finally found him. He was a couple hours east, in a town called Victorville. Master Ryan Spink, a multiple Martial Arts Hall Of Famer, was the man he was searching for.
He explained his situation, and was invited out shortly after to participate in a tactical knife seminar. He completely fell in love with the concepts. After sharing his enthusiasm for what he had learned, Master Spink invited him out to a seminar based on Israeli Krav Maga.
After training for four years with Master Spink, he became a Full Military & Law Enforcement Israeli Krav Maga instructor. Then on February 11th 2018, Patrick received his Israeli Krav Maga Black belt.
The thing that really drew him to Krav Maga was the teaching method and attention to modern weapons. After some research, he had found that most of the weapon disarms in the Krav Maga systems, came from the Philippine edged weapon culture. It was at that point, he knew he had found the next step in his path.
He then began training with some of the biggest names in FMA (Filipino Martial Arts), trying to find a style that felt right to him.
It was then at a seminar for Doug Marcaida, that he met his next Instructor, Grandmaster Felix Roiles. Grandmaster Felix is a 5x World Champion in full contact Eskrima. It is under his tutelage that Patrick won a US National Championship in full contact Eskrima, and a place on the USA Eskrima Team at 175-190 lbs as the Cruiserweight Champion.
He has been training with Grandmaster Felix Roiles for over a year and a half now. During that time, he has given him his personal blessing to teach his family’s fighting style of Pakamut, and to pass on the “Cebuano” fighting system.
In recognition of his accomplishments and dedication in Filipino Martial Arts, he was awarded the position of Director of the Filipino Martial Arts Program at Integrated Combat Systems University. Given to him by the University’s Director, Master Ryan Spink.
His responsibilities include overseeing FMA curriculum development, supervising instructor certification in the Krav Maga, FMA, and Kung Fu San Soo Programs.
Shortly after receiving his Instructor Certification in 2016, he started to travel and teach Krav Maga and Filipino Martial Arts with Master Ryan Spink. Together they shared the I.C.S.U. model with schools around the USA and still enjoy doing so today.
About halfway through 2016, Patrick met a man named Fred Mastro. Fred’s self-defense system stood out, due to his viciousness. Fred had a ferociousness that was very rare, and he instantly saw value in his tactics and principles. Fred Mastro trains many elite special forces, law enforcement agencies, and top bodyguards around the world.
After attending multiple seminars put on by Fred Mastro and some of his associates, Fred personally invited Patrick to come to Belgium and train in the Mastro Defense System. There were over 200+ requests from those that were wanting to attend the training in Belgium, and only 10 of them were selected. So this, was quite an honor.
Upon passing his Level 1 Mastro Defense Instructor Certification in the summer of 2017, he was given the right to teach MDS by Fred Mastro.
He has since since taught various seminars of the Level 1 M.D.S. content throughout the country, starting study groups at each location, to continue the spread of knowledge. He has since been back to Belgium to train numerous times with Fred Mastro on concepts of Executive Protection, Counter Terrorism, and Weapon Defense.
With the introduction of Modern Civilian Combat, Patrick has started to offer all of the skill sets that he has learned over the years. He is now committed to teaching others self defense.
Under this platform, he offers Mastro Defense System, Filipino Edged & Impact Weapons Training, Civilian/Military/Law Enforcement Krav Maga, as well as Kombat Wrestling.
With everyone having different potential threats, these options offer various combinations for seminars as well as private teaching experiences.
As his journey continues on, he is also personally focused on training in firearms and Jiu-Jitsu. He continues to expand his knowledge base, so he can offer the best solutions available for everyone.
Patrick is forever a student, and looks forward to growing as an individual, as well as a Self Defense Instructor.
