About the Karambit Folding Knife:

The Karambit is a functional knife first introduced in the Indonesian archipelago. However, some believe that this unique design originated in Malaysia or the Philippines. The knife was originally designed to be a working folding knife and dates back to the 6th century. This unusual but functional design was first introduced into the United States at the end of the 1800s but was only put into use by the mid 1900s. In Europe it was first introduced in 1970 and 1980 for use in several martial arts disciplines like the Indonesian Pencak Silat, the Malaysian Bursilat and the Pilipino Kali. Today the Karambit Folding Knife is the next generation of Folding Knives. With the advantage of the Emerson “Wave Shaped Opening Feature” (Patent #5,878,500), this is one of the finest personal defense weapons ever developed.

- Ergonomic Handle Design fits Forward and Reverse Grip perfectly
- Can be carried for Reverse or Forward grip deployment
- Total Ambidextrous opening

Founded by Oreste Frati in Italy, FOX Knives are known worldwide for their innovative quality and solid craftsmanship in cutlery since 1977.

We believe that the FOX Karmabit Knife is one of the most unassuming and powerful knives on the market for personal and self defense. Not only that, but we are extremely honored to be allowed by Ernest Emerson himself to utilize his patented (#5,878,500) "Wave Shaped Opening Feature" (or Remote Pocket Opener). With this important and added feature in an emergency or injury situation the knife can be opened with one hand as it is drawn from the pocket.

1) Use a Ruler or a Tape Measure
2) Make sure you DO NOT INCLUDE your Thumb and your Fingers in this measurement
3) ONLY measure the WIDTH of the four tops of your knuckles where your fingers attach to your hand (from your Index Pointer Finger Knuckle all the way across to your Pinky Knuckle)
4) If your hand measures 4 Inches or UNDER in width then the 599 XT FOX Karambit Black G10 Knife is going to be the BETTER FIT for your hand.
5) Again, If you hand is 4 Inches or UNDER in width, we STRONGLY suggest that you DO NOT order the 479 or 479TK Karambit Knives as they will NOT fit your hand properly, as they are meant for XXL Size Hands and any returns will cause a 15% restocking fee we don't want you to incur.

An Excellent Tool.
I've never owned the original 599 karambit but I do have an idea of how it handles since an acquaintance of mine had one. As of this moment I'm absolutely loving all the added features! The back lock adds lots of strength to the knife albeit making the action a little stiff at the halfway point. The detent to the knife is really really strong; if it wasn't for the stiffness at the halfway point of opening closing the knife by using a back lock drop would most likely cause a significant would should one keep their fingers wrapped around the grip. The clip is strong at first. However after drawing the knife using twisting motions the clip has loosened noticeably. That can be fixed by a few bends though so it's not a big problem. The deep jimping on the ring of the knife and the subtle but surprisingly effective jimping on the groove leading to the blade when held in a forward grip allows for the thumb to lock in firmly. In my opinion the inside of the ring is a little bit too smooth. There have been a couple instances where I flipped the knife into an extended position and the knife actually slipped out from my index finger! Now that's probably a technique flaw but it's a concern that I believe I should address. The Emerson Wave is nice and aggressive allow one to easily snag a surface and pull with intent to deploy the blade. The opening hole is a nice touch that keeps weight off but it's not particularly effective; rotating the blade by the Wave actually seems to open the knife better from what I've experienced. I must mention that there is a slight tad of side-to-side blade play when the knife is in the locked position. Time will tell if this gets worse. All in all this is a great defensive tool to have on one's person. I wish the DART came with the back lock but I digress since this is a review for the 599 XT karambit. TL;DR version: It's a good buy. Go for it if you're so inclined.

Tools well done...
Received a 599 and trainer yesterday. Wonderful equipment greatly exceeding my expectations of the price point. Construction design and execution of each tool spot on. All the talk about 'weak clips' seem to have been remedied in the 599 as mine arrived with a 'solid' clip (also received to my surprise with a second solid clip torx bit tool and three extra screws). The reinforcement in the liners for the clip screws was not expected. The trainer arrived with the non solid clip which is not as sturdy but I cannot fault it on a trainer. Having decades of various weapons forms experience these tools did not disappoint. The trainer is an excellent practice tool and has very quickly instilled respect for the edge in my young adult children. The old lipstick on the trainers 'pseudo live edge' quickly teaches one what you can't get away with. ;D Best Regards

The New 599 XT Karambit:
I have the original 599 and trainer this new XT has the same quality and design features with a new locking system. The lock is a stronger mechanism but it adds resistance in the patent wave deployment the back of the blade now pushes against the lock until fully extended one has to compensate for this added resistances as it is still the fastest deployment for a folding knife.
